First, he turned the Blue Jackets into the premier offensive force in the league and then he took the lowly Thrashers and made them the grittest team of the league.

Simply put, the man knows how to build a team.

Boston Bruins

Bruins GM Joe Jurek added depth to his fourth line and a future star to his blueline early in the season with the additions of Maxime Talbot and Alex Goligoski. In a departure from the previous incarnation of the SDHL, he was relatively quiet on the trade front, but stayed shrewd in his dealings. Keith Ballard, Ryan Kessler, and Nathan Horton are all valuable pieces he brought in just as they begin to hit their prime. An excellent regular season and a strong group of veterans ...

Anahiem Ducks

The Ducks stayed steady all season, tweaking the team with minor moves. A ferocious top four on defense, a playoff tested goal scorer, and dangerous young talent made this an intriguing but unassuming team. However when new GM Perry Cox took the reins the trades came quickly, with Andrei Markov, both Kostitsyns, and Anze Kopitar heading to Anahiem. Big names Ryan, Perry, Getzlaf, and Pronger were sent packing and a new look Ducks began taking teams by surprise. With Pronger ...

A playoff bubble team, the Hawks just barely missed the big dance. Loaded with young talent, the Hawks remained competitive all year long behind dynamic blueliner Brian Campbell and budding superstars Patrick Kane and Jonathon Toews. Young depth players like Dustin Byfuglien and Dave Bolland put up solid showings, as did future defensive anchors Duncan Keith and Brent Seabrook.

The Avalanche made trades left and right this season, and it paid off.
season series: 2-1-1, bruins

bottom line: the rangers enter the playoffs with a conference best 8-0-2 mark in their last 10, including a 5 game winning streak to finish out the season and a shootout victory over the Bs in the season ender, to boot. the bruins finished out the season with a rather pedestrian 5-3-2 record in their last 10. if they can regain their form that allowed them to go 15-3 in one late season 18 game stretch they are the favorites. bottom line: on paper this looks like it could be a good matchup, but it just hasnt worked out that way this season. columbus was a virtual offensive juggernaut this year while also playing very solid D. gm decastro must smile when he sees the +89GF/GA differential. on the other hand the sharks were -3 in that same category this year.

season series: 2-2

bottom line: THE marquee matchup in the first round of the SDHL playoffs. its a shame one of them has to go. tampa bay battled hard all season long, sporting the second best record in the east and even making a late push for the conference title. coming up short in their own division means they're stuck in the #4 slot. philly looked well on its way to its own division title until the pens made the most out of their games in hand while the flyers seemed to end their regular ...

what to watch for: neither team has the kind of top end scoring you'd expect given the names on the rosters. in fact, these are the two lowest scoring teams in the playoffs. thankfully they make up for their relatively woeful offenses by being ranked second and third in terms of goals against in the entire league. ...
