If you learned anything from this off season in the SDHL, it's that change is constant and never ending... especially if you're the commish and forced to process 15 trades a day on top of UFA signings.
All of which is no longer my problem, muhahahaha.
The Atlanta Thrashers started the Off Season with a goalie and General Manager trade... and haven't looked back since.
Through a maneuvering of epic proportions, GM Decastro has made a bottom 10 team a play off contender. Out are All Stars Lehtonen, Kovalchuk, White, Kozlov and in are defensive dynamo's Seabrook, Koivu and Lidstrom.
Add in coach Ron Wilson and defense and specialty units is the name of the game.
The Thrasher organization looks forward to the start of pre-season Season 2 in the SDHL and even further ahead to pre-season Season 4 when rerates could take this defense squad even higher if Bogosian lives up to potential.
Season 1 Line up looks like this;
Koivu- Staal- Versteeg- Lidstom- Seabrook
Legwand- Vermette- Miettinen- Commodore- Bogosian
Reasoner- Glencross- Grier- Komisarek- Orpik
Peca- Dupuis- Ward- Commodore- Orpik
S.Mason- Raycroft
Heavy hitting, shot blocking, defensive wonders. In such an offensive division, we had little choice... either attempt to secure high end scoring like 29 other teams in the SDHL, or sell high end scoring for cheap thick defense.
We feel we made the right choice.
Currently $10M under the cap ceiling and all lines filled to perfection and with multitudes of youth, the Thrashers are built solidly for at least the next 4-5 SDHL seasons.
Scoring maybe an issue, but we're hoping to win a lot of OT games, lol.
