LA - QUE Deal

The Los Angeles Kings and Québec Nordiques have struck a deal.

Québec acquires:
Trent Hunter, Pascal Leclaire, Wojtek Wolski, Trevor Lewis

Los Angeles acquires:
Brad Richards, Marty Turco, Sergei Zubov, $2.5M

The Nordiques realize they have lost a tremendous amount of experience and leadership with Brad, Marty and Sergei leaving the organization. However, we are also pleased to get much, much younger with this deal, and to clear approximately $9.4M in salaries, putting us in an excellent position with regards to the salary cap. Additionally, we are very pleased with the quality of players we are receiving. In Trent, we acquire a player with who can skate, score and play defensively, as well as check within a margin of discipline. With Pascal Leclaire, we are acquiring a younger goaltender who, while not the caliber of Marty Turco now, may reach that level in a couple of years, should he remain healthy. Wojtek Wolski is part of a young, up-and-coming group of young offensive players that the Nordiques are happy to develop, and we expect significant offensive contributions from him within the next few seasons. Finally, in Trevor Lewis, we acquire a young player with offensive abilities and a defensive presence, which we hope will turn into a lethal combination.
