| This is a bad deal for Calgary, too...
Ohlund is better than Regehr for now, but their ratings will probably be even closer by the next re-rate, and Regehr is three years younger.
Bayda is, at best, a fourth-line forward - who, I might add, remains unsigned in the NHL -, and Lalime is a weak back-up.
I think Keetley (who still has plenty of potential, enough to be a Legace-type goaltender, who is a "sorta" #1 goalie), the 4th-rounder and Regehr is enough for Ohlund straight up.
So then the deal is a top prospect (Nemisz) for an unsigned fourth-line forward and an old, mediocre back-up?
Sorry, but I challenge.. the same type of "new guy" thing... with a veteran GM, maybe I wouldn't challenge.
Mike, I question why you are so eager to rid yourself of Greg Nemisz and bring in fourth line depth for him? At least get some quality players in exchange for him.

| IMO, the trade isn't that bad. Yes I would say the Sabres got a good deal....but not by so much that the deal should gte vetoed. The deal is within non-veto boundaries, so the deal should go through. A decent deal is one that should be let through and to be told your opinions on who won the trade, so people could know for other times. This trade seems to favour the Sabres, but not so much to veto it.
Nesmisz isn't all that great. Hes a good second liner, thats all, nothing more. Its not like Pietrangelo (LOL) whos gonna rock the NHL when he comes in. Nesmisz is just a good guy to have, not a player to make or break a deal, or to make it go through or to cancel the trade.
Chicago said it best, if it aint a franchise players, it aint gonna get veto'd!

| But Nemisz is an excellent prospect, and Bayda and Lalime are virtually useless.
Calgary is a new GM, and so that 'new GM' veto rule thing should be invoked, IMO. It's a very bad deal for Calgary.

| okay i think its about time i said something; 3 GM's were interested in Ohlund which let me put trade offers up against each other, flames sent me a good offer, I told the other 2 GM's that I have recieved this type of offer and the other GM's decided to pull out, this is what we call a "bidding war" GM's tend to make bigger offers on players they like to ensure that they get that player, just like in this trade Mike really likes Ohlund so he gave a little more to get him. As did I in the Carter deal, I gave up a "dirt cheap" contract in Parise for a player who is one of my FAV players in the NHL | |

| Mark, I understand where you're coming from. Why shouldn't you accept an overpayment? Well, here's the problem the league is facing: An overpayment is one thing...and it's usually more accepted when the GM overpaying has a history of knowing what he's doing. This is just plain mind-boggling. I'm a big fan of Robyn Regehr. Personally, I think he's among the top five (after a rough season...I would normally put him top three) #2 guys in the league. That is to say, he's the perfect compliment to a #1 D like Phaneuf or Bouwmeester. Ohlund, on the other hand, slipped into top four minutes after being the 'go-to' guy for so long in Vancouver. In fact, they didn't even extend his contract, opting to keep the likes of Sami Salo and Willie Mitchell instead. This being said, here's how 'I' break the deal down: Ohlund, Bayda for Regehr Lalime for a 4th - anyone who pays more than this for Lalime should be shot until they are very, very dead. This leaves, what? Yeah, you guessed it...Keetly and this Nemisz kid for free. *scratches head* Now, let's look at it from an even different point of view, shall we? Let's pretend that Nemisz hasn't been drafted yet, and it's simply a 1st rounder. Goodness, you say...this makes it even WORSE! Why, yes it does...because first rounders are worth four million times their weight in pucks. Pucks made of gold, that is. And since Nemisz is freshly drafted, he's still a first rounder. He's still got that potential. And on a team that has a few aging forwards...he could find his shot coming sooner, rather than later. Top six, or not...'free' is not enough to pay. The reason this deal isn't a good one is very simple. Calgary loses a younger D and a great young prospect. In return they get a D on the downslide and little else. I'd love to hear Calgary's take on this, I really would...I just can't figure out how anyone would look at this as a 'good move'. Except, of course, Buffalo. | |
