| As the all star game reaches closer and closer and soon will be left in the rearview mrror in this busy first year for GM Ben Gallant. Not only has there been record turn over for the habs, but no resuslts, shocking to most fans the Habs see them selves with a 20-29-2 after 51 games. There are some promising things however, young D-man Ryan Suter leads the team with 44 points (5G, 39 A). The farm team is in the division lead led by Matt Dagostini (50G 45A). Also with prospects Brandon Yip, Max Pacorietty braking into the NHL we feel happy when re-rates happen, especially having Rich Peverley and Anze Kopitar and even Glen Metropolit
Still in the search for a starting goalie the Habs are looking to trade captain Adam Foote and healthy scratch night after night Andrew Alberts, hopefully Matt Dandenault can find a new home as well and will not sit on our farm team. Hoping to bring in some picks for the year 2 draft and young peices that could eventually be shipped out for a starting goalie.
Over the off season it looks like GM Gallant will be busy in FA looking for a goaltending partner for Hiller if he can`t make a trade for a starter as veteran Olaf Kolzig will likely retire after serving as a backup. Another top 4 defensive d-man will also be a target of GM Gallant who is looking to save cap over the off season and may start a complete rebuild but likely will re-tool and trade veterans over the next couple seasons while competing.
Overall GM Gallant is confident his job is not something to worry about and Bob Gainey will most likely serve for one more season as head coach after the end of this season and then move on to a different job, likely will retire. Though he may be fired sooner then not and if an option to grab a younger coach is there GM Gallant may jump on it.
Look for a big off season from the Habs with the draft where the habs have their 1st round pick (prediction 18-23) sens 2nd (prediction 30-35) and Calgary`s 2nd (45-50). GM Gallant is looking to bring in another second when captain Adam Foote leaves and hopefully a pair of 4th`s when Dandenault and Alberts leave along with cash.
Look for more by GM Gallant nearing the end of the season. | |
