The St. Louis Blues announced the release of head coach Andy Murray today. Murray is 17-26-4 heading into the All Star break, and his former team has a 24th ranked 13.79% penalty kill.
"Andy has worked hard, given it his all, but we just feel it's time for us to part ways", said GM Ian Van Halsema. "I know that some of the players aren't going to be happy with this decision, but overall I think it's the right move for the franchise".
In his place, the Blues have promoted Rivermen coach Joel Quennville to the St. Louis head coaching position.
"Joel has led the Rivermen to the division lead, and third place in the conference. We feel he is more than qualified to step in and direct the young players on the Blues", stated Van Halsema.
There are a few candidates on St. Louis's radar for the open farm team position, and an announcement is expected to be made soon.
