I hate to be a stickler here, but I gotta challenge this. Letang is a top young defenseman, and should garner much more than a fourth rounder and some pocket change.

And I apologize, but I have to do the same to Straka for Sykora. Sykora is 31, and playing next to Malkin. Straka is 35, and no longer in the NHL.

although i agree Letang is a good young d-man he iikely to peak as a top 4 dman....with Whitney returning to the lineup he has seen his ice time reduced and that is only going reduced further with Gonchar on the mend.

Remember Letang himself was a 3rd round selection. with roughly 2 seasons in the NHL it is not as if he has not put up huge numbers in that time. he is just a solid young d

So what is being offered is not completely out of possibility.

You make some good points, his ice time will diminish rapidly. But for the record, this is his first NHL season and he's on pace for 30 points... not bad for a 21 year old rookie defenseman. As far as his draft selection goes, his play thus far indicates that he may have been a steal. But I do understand where you are coming from in this trade.
