It's not a terrible deal, but I don't understand how this is re-building. I comprehend that you, San Jose, want to re-vamp your roster, but by trading away guys like Setoguchi, Michalek and Clowe, that's not re-building - that's just overhauling the roster. These guys are young and have untapped potential, and by trading them away for old guys and draft picks, it might not pan out the way you expect.

I understand what Les Nordiques is saying by trading for an older guy but the thing is that he got a year 2 1st which is what a rebuilding team would want to get in a trade

Sully may be older but he can still put the puck in the net...74 SC is still pretty good and with the 1st i think this deal if fair for both teams

^ Yes, I understand your point. I just think that "re-building" is absolutely the wrong term for what San Jose seems to be doing. They just seem to be blowing up the roster.

yes your right but "blowing up the team" is what i did with the Sabres from the start of the offseason, i traded players like pomminville kovalev prospects picks anything i could to improve my team

so who knows San jose could be doing the same thaing as me or just a rebuild, Sully is a FA next year so if he doesnt want him he can always just let him go, sully was added in as kind of a cap issue for me so that i could make room for Clowe on my LW

Clowe is hot.

This deal is a rebuilder as Clowe resigned is pretty expensive and the fact they got a first. Once the NHL season starts, if Sullivan continues tearing up the league like he did once he got his ice legs back at the end of last season SJ will be able to move Sully for another first. Once again, maybe not the best deal out there, but a very solid return for a young player.

Why are you trading for a guy if you don’t know what they did last year (especially a guy who missed two years of hockey with a back injury).

Dev made a good point, but this last comment by the Sharks GM makes the deal less legitimate in my eyes.

i made the deal because of sully's solid ratings and teh fact he's a free agent after this year. he can be turned for a pick at the deadline or free's up more cap space after this year.
