ATL-OTT Trade

To OTT: Andrej Meszaros, Aaron Rome, Riley Holzapfel, Year 4: ATL 1
To ATL: Nicklas Lidstrom

To some it may not be enough for an elite player like Lidstrom, but the fact he's a UFA and probably going to retire soon makes this a fair trade in my opinion. Though of course, I would have rather done a deal without giving up Rome or Holzapfel.

ATL agrees and hereby counters CBJ's defensive upgrade with a check and mate, lol.

Let's say, hypothetically, Lidstrom retires after this NHL season (I am almost positive he won't, but whatever). When would he be gone from the SDHL rosters? We do two SDHL seasons per NHL season, right? So then, would he be gone for the start of YR 4?

If the player officially retires from the NHL during a SDHL season, the player will remain until the end of play offs. If he retires during the SDHL off season he is automatically erased.

It's a gamble on my part, I have to resign him first of all then have to hope he doesn't retire ASAP or within the next 2 NHL seasons to make this trade or resigning worthwhile.

True, but it definitely helps you win now. I think Lidstrom has a couple of very, very good years left in the tank, and that translates to four SDHL seasons, so I think it works out for both of you.

Same here. Jeff wants to suck for a bit more so the trade off in immediate help for future works for him and for me, I have to face off against Detroit and Columbus 8 games each a season, lol.

Meszaros is good, but come on... Lidstrom will probably be my top goal scorer, lol.

Im sure Lidstrom has a lot left in him, but even so I pray for you Atlanta that he doesnt retire in the next few weeks. But I wouldnt stress to much about it thats for sure....nice trade boys

i think lidstroms got another nhl season in him for sure, beyond that im not so sure
