| I dislike this deal (on the line of challenging but I'll leave that up to others, will just leave my opinion. I don't see how a first (in yr 4 though) goes as well as the best current player and the best prospect for wheeler. Sweatt is a good prospect but colborne is much better, Wheeler has played one good season, but as a #5 pick is an excellent player. Yet Colborne projects to be a top 6 F and Weiss, while he may not possess the scoring ability, is an excellent top 6 forward with excellent playmaking abilities. I think if the picks are removed or are changed in the rnds even though they are in yr 4, this would be a fairer deal. | |

| Yeah, I must say this looks slightly lopsided to me as well. I hate to get involved in other GMs' deals, but I'm not a big fan of this one.
I do believe that Wheeler will turn out to be the best of these assets by a considerable margin, but Colborne and Weiss are both going to be very solid top-six forwards for years. Adding the 1st-rounder on top of that tips the scales too far though, IMO.
I'm going to wait to hear a few other GMs' opinions before deciding whether or not to challenge, though... maybe I'm missing something.

| The Carolina Hurricanes accept this trade. Glad to finally get a great centre to lead the team.
And yes, I have traded Wheeler......well too bad for others who didnt get him.

Like, Ovechkin-type good? I think Wheeler's a good player with awesome skill and size, but realistically, I don't see him ever being more than a mediocre 1st-liner, or an excellent 2nd-liner. I expect that both Weiss and Colborne will be very solid 2nd-liners, and the 1st-rounder will land a top-six forward or top-four defenceman. If Sweatt pans out, he could be a top-six forward too, but the 4th rounder is insignificant. The more I look at it, the less bad it looks, and I don't think it's challenge-worthy, but I do think the winner is fairly obvious.

| solid deal...as everyone said, the 1st is too much, but if Carolina was able to milk an 1st rounder out of Florida for a Wheeler deal, then good for him, nothing there remotely close challenge worthy... | |
