Oilers-Nordiques Deal

The Edmonton Oilers and Québec Nordiques have struck a deal.

To Québec:
Sam Gagner, Jason Pominville, Jordan Eberle, YR2 EDM 4th-round pick, $500K cash

To Edmonton:
Daniel Sedin, Henrik Sedin

The Nordiques are very disappointed to let go of two exceptional offensive players with even more exceptional chemistry, but are even more pleased to be able to bring in assets of the quality we landed. Sam Gagner is a wonderful, young offensive talent that we expect to blossom into a number one center; Jason Pominville is a very capable scoring winger for the top two lines; Jordan Eberle is poised to become a very good scoring winger in the NHL himself; and it's always nice to be able to deepen your draft pick pool and the contents of your wallet!

Great deal, now everyone accept the fact that he wants to move Cogs, look at that Gagner gone Cogs would be next on the list out don't you think?

The Nordiques are very happy to announce the acquiring of two players (their first two, I do believe) with French connections - Sam Gagner has a French last name, and Pominville was born in Quebec!

Thank you. It is a fine deal and really any deal could be better. I'm happy and the Nords are happy so it's good for both teams.

Well, I think the big thing is it benefits both of us. It makes the Oilers much better right now, and it will probably make me much better in the long run (depending on the development of Eberle + Gagner, of course). He wants to compete now, I want to compete later.

It has nothing to do with the fact that he wants to move Cogs, it's the return he's getting for him. Trading him away and giving him away are two very different things.
