| To Montreal: Cogliano, Liam Reddox + 350K To Edmonton: Kostopolous, Mathiu Aubin, Mike Ratchuk, (p) Maxim Trunev, (p) Jonathan Ferland, (p) David Fischer, LA'S YR3 2nd, Julien Ellis. The Edmonton Oilers are trading a special player in Cogliano. While I do want to win now, this deal will restock my farm system. I wish Cogliano all the best in Montreal. We are happy to have Tom Kostopolous join the Edmonton Oilers. One option was to deal Cogliano for a big ticket player but I decided to trade for youth. | |

| i STILL dont get this deal.
why trade cogliano for marginal talent? for a bunch of pieces that may never be better than 4th liners in the NHL?
just piling more and more mediocre assets on until "equals" cogliano.

K wait... so Kostopolous proven checking guy, 3rd or 4th line and a pker + Aubin good aquisition for a farm and a nice 4th line call up if ever need Ratchuck who will be a great puck moving speedy guy projected to make top 4 defense. A younger russian speedy guy who is a year behind everyone in devoloping because his birthday was the cut off for the draft + Ferland a guy who has no contract in the KHL this year and is likely coming back to the AHL or NHL as he has the talent + Fischer who is taking extra time to develop but is still a pretty damn good prospect + a 2nd round pick never bad + Jullien Ellis who has had the starting job at college since his first year their and will make the jump to back up or start for the AHL squad next year depending on how Montreal deals with this Halak, Sanford, Price and supposedly Fenandez thing

| this is all speculation on how YOU think these young guys will turn out. All speculation.
I think these are marginal prospects
I'm not challenging the deal, I'm done with that.
But Cogliano looks a certain top 6 guy with deadly speed and scoring touch.
whatever, lets end it here and move on

| I do agree with Minnesota. It's still not the greatest deal for Edmonton, and I know he could've gotten more. And Ben, I've told you this already... it's mostly a bunch of spare parts. David Fischer is a good prospect and a 2nd-rounder is nice, but the rest is basically spare stuff, and it's hard to make spare stuff equal value to a speedy guy like Cogliano who should have no problem putting up 50+ points year after year.
Whatever.. it's another deal that isn't fair value, but it's not bad enough to warrant vetoing.

| Well, In any deal their is never a guarantee. Some players may work out and some may not. I could receive top rate prospects and all of them turn out to be busts. Player's who are not thought of highly can turn out to be the best player in the deal. The deal is done. | |

1 team can always do better though, then the scale turns to the other team being able to do better... No deal is 100% for 100%

| Yes Cogliano is the best player in the deal, no question. Look at the number of assets I aquired for really one player. Is my team hurt by this deal no. If you can get a number of assets for one player don't you think it is worth it. I traded Cogliano for like 6 or 7 assets. I'm moving on. | |

| How come you got a problem with me moving this player. You attacked the first cog deal and as soon as it was vetoed you were first in line to make a offer. Ulterior motive, I got that impression from you. You really wanted Cogliano and you didn't get him so you set out to kill the deal. Deal gets killed and seconds later your making an offer. Besides, if all of you were good gm's you'd be getting paid by real teams. | |

| i dont want cogs that bad. i thought he was available so i made an offer.
heres the scene, bud. i will NEVER make an offer for cogs, but will challenge trades that i dont think are fair.
end of arguement | |

Problem is it's 6-7 near wortless assets....not a lot of players u get back are good assets..Fisher is not a good prospect, he will never make the habs...im from Mtl. Kosto is a marginal 4th liner. Only 2 good assets you got are LA 2nd in Y3 and Trunev, that kid is very good! The rest is AHL/ECHL forever. To me it's good enough to say let it slide, but again, it's quite a bad deal for Edmonton, just not veto worthy, it doesnt kill his franchise or anything, nor does it make Mtl infinately better, it's just a great young player for a bunch of average fillers.

| My opinion is that veto should be used carefully and the least often possible. Veto for me means franchise-altering deal, something that could make the franchise a lot worse for a while, not drop the veto hammer on any deal that isnt completely fair. It's bad, but he's getting lots of guys, some could make it, most won't but he's fine with it and him losing Cogliano doesnt destroy his game plan. | |
